Overview of WhatsApp New Feature:
WhatsApp is seemingly working on a new feature that would allow users to change the image quality setting before sending it to others. As spotted by popular WhatsApp updates tracker WABetaInfo, the new image compressor tool would provide the three options of ‘data save,’ ‘best quality,’ and ‘auto.’
The new WhatsApp tool, whose traces were found on WhatsApp beta for Android 22.214.171.124, is still under development, and the stable rollout could take months. Recently, the Facebook-owned messaging platform was seen working on a similar feature where users could compress the quality of the video before hitting send. The advantage of both image and video compressors would include less sending time and download time as well as low storage intake.
Facebook-owned WhatsApp is working on two new features that might allow users to send images and videos in ‘best quality’. WABetaInfo reported that the two features are currently in development for the Android app and should eventually present three quality options when sending images and videos. The options are ‘Auto’, ‘Best quality’ or ‘Data saver’.
Instant Messaging Platform-WhatsApp is working to deploy new features that allow users to send images uncompressed. According to Mashable India, this feature is currently under development by the platform and was discovered by WABetaInfo, a popular website that pushes regular updates on WhatsApp.
How does This New Feature will Work?
- This feature is enabled for beta test users. WABetaInfo states: “WhatsApp is working on video quality settings, so you can send videos using the highest quality available (under development). In this beta, WhatsApp is working on the same settings for images, so it’s great. Quality is also available when sending photos! “
- Mashable India reported that WhatsApp will introduce the same settings for managing video quality. This includes “finding the best compression algorithm for a particular image”, “automatic (recommended)”, “sending images using the highest quality available”, “highest quality”, and “data saver enabled”. “Compression is enabled when” and “Data saver” are included. It is enabled in the Android settings. “
- Apart from this, WhatsApp is also working on a large link preview for iOS users, making it easy to see what the link is. A large preview link feature is currently under development and will soon be available to users.
Choosing the video quality before sending is useful as it means that you can pick the right option to either save bandwidth or share the video without heavy compression. The image and video quality settings join a growing list of unreleased WhatsApp features unearthed by WABetaInfo. The most anticipated of these is multi-device support, which will allow the service to be usable across multiple devices. The app researcher reported the feature was in development last year and more recently Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the feature will launch soon.
